A lot of us grow up learning to describe What Is. When we watch the news, we get loads of timely information about What Is. We read books and give reports on the book … on What it Is. As such, it’s no surprise that many, if not most, of us are very much concerned with the reality of What Is.

An interesting aspect of dealing with What Is has to do with danger. If you were/are involved in Scouting in any way, you’ll know of the mantra Be Prepared. I’m a strong proponent of being prepared, as it’s just common sense to take care of possible outcomes and be ready for them. I’m not, however, a fan of getting completely wrapped up in those preparations such that they become the Be All End All of the endeavour. In fact, I feel that paying too much attention to such matters is detrimental to our overall well-being.

Our thoughts are the great “expanders” of reality. If we get caught up with the dangers, we’ll have the unintended consequence of creating danger or drawing it to us. As such, I think it’s very important to recognize the difference between being mindful versus being fretful and worried. Care is not synonymous with worry. So, take care in choosing that which you think about and what you think about it.

I chose the airplane photo because it’s useful in pointing out how important our thoughts are. Humans achieved the ability of flight because some souls sat and thought long about the idea of flying. They didn’t sit around thinking about being on the ground. They looked at how other animals and insects were able to fly and set about finding ways that people could make those ideas work.

If you’ve been stuck, take note of the thoughts you’ve been thinking. Have you been thinking about the stuckness of things or have you looked at ways of enabling yourself to take flight?
