It’s supposed to be easy. Everything is supposed to be easy. Everything is easy. You live in a dream world. You’re surrounded by illusions. And the illusions change when you change your thinking! Tell yourself it’s easy. Tell yourself often. Make it a mantra. Eat, sleep, and breathe it. And your life shall be transformed.

It’s supposed to be easy,
The Universe

I love Mike Dooley’s TUT quotes. They serve as constant reminders that what our mind expects tends to be realized. They’re often funny and irreverent, but they almost always hit the mark and shed some well-timed light on how I might improve my thinking. Thanks, Mike. I really appreciate it!

For the last couple of years, I’ve spent the vast majority of my time on a two-pronged approach to life: Enjoying as much of every day as possible and building up my own businesses. The emphasis has been more on enjoying life, too, as I’ve come to understand that when you enjoy life, good things naturally come to you. The happier you are, the happier you’ll become. Reality is self-affirming in that regard.

That focusing on happiness has been of paramount importance. After nearly 15 years with the same company, I’d been downsized, my relationships were in the dumps, my life savings was gone, I was in serious debt and I had no idea where my next meal was coming from much of the time. And so armed with the knowledge that we really do reap what we sow, I planted as many scattered seeds of happiness throughout each day as possible.

On some days, that happiness amounted to being able to eat more than one meal. During those days, I focused a lot of my efforts on being in an environment that I knew would bring peace, whether hungry or not. Many days would find me up on the hillsides with naught but a bottle of water, enjoying the sunshine and peace of the early morning. Listening to Japanese bush warblers, even on an empty stomach, was always good to bring peace of mind and a smile to my face.

Growing happiness is a subtle process, but vitally important to our health and well-being. I use the term “grow” here because being happy is a conscious, intentional process. It doesn’t just happen upon you without you trying. If you want to be happy, healthy and abundant, it’s up to you to create that.

I’ve used a similar phrase before, but it’s up to each of us to be the artist who paints our life in bold strokes. Each decision we make, each fight we have, each tantrum we throw are all brush strokes on the canvas that is our life. So, the question is, how do you want that painting of yours to look when you’re done?

In planting seeds of happiness, we then tend to our garden and watch them begin to grow. Unless they’re nurtured with constant attention, i.e., appreciation, they tend to not grow so well and may even whither. The best Gardeners of Happiness know that those happy seeds grow best when they’re constantly fed with more happiness.

As with my earlier example of being grateful for even a bowl of eggs and onions to get me through the day, these moments of peaceful contentment of where you are are the seeds of happiness that grow to become the moments of where you’ll be. Each of our thoughts help to map our path through life. And of vital importance to remember is that you won’t wind up at a happy destination if all the milestones of your journey are unhappy.

If you embrace the idea that happiness is cumulative and that each good moment builds upon those that came before it, I assure you that you’ve pretty much got unlimited potential to create a life that you’ll look back on with gratitude. We inextricably shape each day we live through the thoughts we think and the interactions we co-create with those around us. All we need to do is choose to be happier and so shall it be.

For me, that focus on happiness has brought me from wondering from where a meal might come to giggling as new contracts are offered to me unbidden out of the blue. And the most remarkable thing about it has been that it’s been easy! That’s right, easy. To create this life of abundance, contentment and happiness has been much easier, in fact, than creating struggle and relationship woes.

So, follow the Law of Attraction with the intention of building something beautiful for yourself and those around you. Start small and work your way up. Once you begin getting up in the morning and looking forward to facing the day, you’re just moments away from that first huge A-HA! that leads you on the journey of a lifetime.

Enjoy it!
